Anna Ross: News

Summer Tour = Unbelieveable - August 4, 2008

Jeff E always gets on to me because I don’t blog enough. Honestly I’m not sure that anyone will read this other than him  joking. I’m never good at this blogging thing; I just don’t know what to say, but here it goes.
First of all I want to thank everyone who came to any of our shows this summer. We have met some really awesome people and had an absolute blast! I also want to thank my family: my band and Maureen Murphy for making it all possible. This will definitely be a summer that I will never forget, road trips, late night stops at Steak and Shake, Mo giggly from a high on caffeine, countless laughs, and heart-felt and soul searching conversations. It’s been amazing! If you are reading this and you didn’t get to see us this summer, shame on you. You missed some great stuff, for real.
Our last show for the summer was Saturday night at BDX Coffeehouse in Martin. It’s always fun to play in West, TN. As you may already know, we will be taking a much needed break. We’ve been going hard about every to every other weekend.
In other news, Jon and I will be headed for the pan handle to soak up some sun next week for our 2 year anniversary. (Yes, we’ve almost survived 2 years!) I CAN’T WAIT!!! We will hopefully come back with some rockin’ tunes and bodacious suntans just in time for classes to start back. *Yuck*
I’ll keep you updated on what’s going on. See you in a few weeks.

Peace and Chicken Grease,
Anna

Summer Tour Kicks Off This Weekend! - May 12, 2008

Hey Ya’ll,
Spring classes are over and summer is well on its way. This means that our summer tour is here! It kicks off this weekend, Friday, May 16th @ Utopia Coffeehouse at 7:00pm in Springhill, TN –Anna and Jon with Maureen Murphy and then on Saturday, May 17th @ Etcetera at 7:00 pm in Paducah, KY-The Anna Ross Project with Maureen Murphy.

On a personal note, I know most of you may not know my father, but he is very sick. If you are praying person, my family really needs some prayers as we all get through this really hard time. My Daddy would be very glad to know that we traveling around this summer with our music. He was always the traveling type… a truck driver. If he could, he would be loading Jon and me up with road maps with at least 4 different routes to our locations, especially Atlanta.

We hope to see some of you out to some of our shows this summer, and also meet some great new people along the way too. If you guys haven’t gotten the chance to hear my friend Maureen Murphy, this would be the best opportunity.
You can check her out at www. maureenmurphymusic. com or www. myspace. com/maureenmurphy

You can always stop by and leave me a message on my guestbook. Let me know what you think, or just say hi.

March, Jesus, and Maureen Murphy - March 6, 2008

What’s up my homies?! It’s March AHHH!!! That must mean MADDNESS AHHH!!! March is my favorite month because: a.) It’s the beginning of spring. b.) It contains my birthday, 17th, usually St. Patrick’s Day but the Pope moved it this year. c.) It’s only about 2 months away from summer which means going to the lake! By the way, if you missed the show at the French Quarter Feb. 29th, shame on you… We freakin’ rocked! It was the first time we tried out the new style. Needless to say, it worked.

Also in the last few months I have had somewhat of a religious awakening. All of my life I have had a dream of becoming a rock star, professional recording artist, entertainer…whatever you want to call it. As I am getting older and wiser and the music industry is becoming harder and harder to break through, it has been a bit discouraging. It’s pretty much the equivalent to finding out that Jesus never existed. Living in West TN I had almost a fairytale image of what the music industry and Nashville was like. I have discovered that it’s a widespread thing; still to this day if someone asks me where I live and I reply “Nashville”, they usually say, “Oh, she lives in ‘Nashvul’!” That means I must know big wigs or important people. I also love it when fellow singers of mine, even family from back home somehow score a show in Nashville and it’s a REALLY big deal. “They are singing up in Nashvul! We better go and watch em!” Why Hell, we play in “Nashvul” every month, sometimes more! We don’t get a caravan commute every time we play. Do we not count?! The thing is that we are the real thing… we kick ass! The problem is that there aren’t a whole lot of people in Nashville that aren’t good.

So after I released the CD and I still hadn’t gotten that fairytale record deal, I was pretty down. I mean I don’t know what I expected, “okay, now everything will fall in place just how I imagined it.” I thought, “what am I doing wrong?” And then I looked around and thought about some of the friends I have made here in Nashville, all of them are really good and have been at this same dream for wayyyyy longer than I have, living here, playing shows, hoping record execs will come out the their shows, networking, showcases, co-writing with the best writers, name dropping, and playing this game for ten years or more. The sad thing is that these people are 20 x better than anything currently on the radio. The problem is that it’s not just about the music anymore. It’s about how much sex you can sell. Anyway, that’s whole other blog. I woke up one morning and realized, what does it matter if I’m impressing record execs? I AM living my dream! I DO have a kick ass band and my own CD with MY OWN music! I’m doing this because I love it, not because it’s the next step in something bigger and better or to impress anyone but myself. Just like any dream, it never ends up being exactly like the fairytale you pictured. You don’t just wake up one day with a record deal in you back pocket. I’m not saying that I am not interested in signing a record deal or furthering my career at all. I just have a new attitude toward my music, and it feels great! I enjoy it so much more now, when there are no expectations. It makes me feel even more creative, and that I can be even more honest in my writing. There is no mould I must fit in; I can just be myself…

Plus, these guys in my band are such a blessing. First of all, they do not get paid, (sometimes they get good food and drinks by the Jeffy Germ and me). This is a band that is truly doing it because they love music, in particularly my music, and that is so inspiring. I don’t know too many musicians, good musicians, that will willingly play for free on a regular basis on faith alone. I appreciate these guys so much.

Now that I have ranted enough, I must go and rehearse bgv’s for Maureen Murphy’s CD release Show this Saturday at Douglas Corner. You’d be an idiot to miss this. Guys, she IS the real deal…and yes you read correctly, I will be singing background vocals, fun fun! I get to do the little bgv dance with Ryan Michaels. If anything, you should at least come to see that. :)

Have a great week!

Peace and Chicken Grease,
Anna

The NEW ARP - January 25, 2008

Yes I said the "new" Anna Ross Project.

We are changing things up a bit and going acoustic! The plan is to have Elkins on bass (possibly upright) and mandolin, percussion, maybe some bgvs, Germ on a rhodes :)and of course Jonny on guitar and mandolin, and me.

I'm really excited because these are my roots. I started off playing out when I was 15 just me and a guitar, and because my songs are so honest and personal, they almost need a "nakedness" so to speak. Don't get me wrong; we still plan on rockin' out occasionally with a full electric band.

This is gonna be so cool you guys! I can't wait! The plan is to debut the 'revamped' ARP by the French Quarter show Feb. 21st.

On another note, I wrote 3 new songs. I'm really proud of them...I put my heart and soul in all three of them. If you know me, you know my songs are a reflection of how sometimes overly passionate I can be. Sometimes it becomes a fault of mine because often I wear my heart on my sleeve, but it's worth it. Don't worry, if you piss me off, I will just write a song about you

I started class back at MTSU. I'm getting a tingling in my tummy knowing that I will be submitting my "intent to graduate" form. I don't really understand that anyway. I mean, don't we all intend to graduate? It's just another form to fill out and another tree lost to uselessness. Anyway, I think I want to teach 3rd grade. Can you picture me as Mrs. Eaton the 3rd grade teacher?

My lil Anna, the little girl that I nannied for, has moved to Louisville. I miss her already. She turned 1 year old on Jan. 12th. That baby was such a blessing in my life. Whatever was going on at the moment, all I had to do is go to work and look in those little eyes and it would all be better. I call it baby therapy. I'll just have to get baby therapy from my new little niece Brooklin.

Updates & Show THIS SATURDAY! - January 10, 2008

Hey Folks!

Happy belated holidays and a very happy New Year! Jon and I had a great one. We brought in the new year at the Ryman watching the Del McCoury Band. It was a great show!

I will be starting back to school next Monday at MTSU. I’m excited because that just means I’m that much closer to being finished. I took this Fall off, and I wished I wouldn’t have. It will be nice to get back into the swing of things.

On another note, I hope you guys can get out and see the round this weekend I am in with Ryan Michaels, Maureen Murphy, and Dan Cowen. If you haven’t seen these guys before, you really should. Plus, I have written 2 new songs this week. One is called “The Perfect Song” that I wrote with Jon, and the other is called “Love Letter” written about Jon. If all goes well and with a little more tweaking, I plan on playing them at the round this Saturday. You guys should at least come out just to Jon cry when I play my “Love Letter” song.

“In the Round” with Ryan Michaels, Maureen Murphy, Anna Ross, Dan Cowen and friends.

Proud - October 9, 2007

Oh my goodness....I can't sit still! Andy, Jon, and I just finished the Album art and sent everything off yesterday morning to be duplicated. The album art is SO cool, and the tracks are freakin awesome thanks to Chris Rueger and Jeff Germ and The Anna Ross Project of course.

I have waited so long to release my first record. I'm so glad I waited because I did it the right way. I have a record now that I can be proud of, a record that I can listen back to in 30 years and say "wow!" Trust me you guys will not be disppointed...you'll probably even be a little impressed.

With the release of the CD, we will be working on changing the web-site and myspace. Krista Lee took some awesome picks of us! Keep a look out.

I just want to say thanks to everybody who cares enough about me and music to even read this. Thanks to everyone who has supported me over all these years and gave me the courage to put this record out.

I love ya'll!

Happy Holidays

What's New Ya'll? - October 24, 2006

Lots of new things happening! The main thing is that I have some new demos with more of a country flava. Check em out and let me know what you think! I love feedback.

Moon Merlot & Me features Mason Douglas himself, the songwriter. I had a lot of fun in the studio yesterday. It was great to put on the headphones again. We recorded at The Mixed Dream Studio, all produced by Dave Brainard. I'm very happy with how it turned out. I can't wait to get things rolling again!

As for the married life, it's been great! My beautiful hubby played the guitar tracks for me including the little guitar solo in Tennessee Rain. I'm so blessed to have someone that shares the same passion as I do.

Anna Ross Project News: We have gained a member, Mr. Andy Calmes who will be playing drums for us now. We also lost a member; we miss ya Force! We are on the market for a bass player. If you know anyone who might be interested give me a shout.

The Next Show: November 4th @ Douglas Corner (MARK YOUR CALENDARS!!) @ 6:00PM In the Round with Maureen Murphy, Ryan Michaels, The Karg Boys. It's smoke free... in case you aren't into smokey bars.

I'm really excited about all the things going on. I'm hoping this demo will get me that record deal I've always wanted.

Peace,

Anna

Happiest Woman Alive! - August 23, 2006

Hey Folks,
First things first, I am so excited to announce that I am now Mrs. Eaton. (Just to clarify I'll still be keeping The Anna Ross Project and my stage name will still be Anna Ross.) The wedding was amazing and my husband is amazing. I'm so lucky to have found my Jonny. We had a great honeymoon in Seaside, FL. We are refreshed, but I'll admit that it was really hard to leave to come back home. We loved it there!
So we are back and we have show at Shakespeare in the Park 7-7:30. The play this year is Macbeth. So you get to hear some great music and see some Shakspeare all in one! I hope to see some peeps there. We will be giving away CDs featuring the latest, just finished song "Falling Away"! You can check it out on my web-site www.annaross.com and myspace www.myspace.com/annaross

Peace ya'll,
Anna

Update - August 3, 2006

So much excitement! First things first, Thorn is finished! We have it posted on the "Tunes" section. You can download both Beautiful Day and Thorn. Jeff and Chris are still working on Falling Away. It should be finished very soon.
I also have some more great news. I have signed a management deal and I am super excited about that! LOOK OUT everybody! Things are really gonna start happening.
Also I'm getting hitched. That's right, Jon and I are getting married next Saturday...wish us luck. We can't wait.
An old buddy of mine, Dustin Laird, has passed. He was killed by a roadside bomb in Iraq yesterday. He played bass in the very first band I was ever in Counter Clockwise. Rest in Peace D-Money. Please pray for his family.
On the brighter side, check out the "Calendar" section. We have some shows booked. Hope to see you guys there.

Recording Session - May 22, 2006

So the recording session this weekend went really well. I had a blast too! I can't wait to hear the final tracks. All the guys played great! In case they are reading this, thanks everybody for getting up early on a Saturday morning and dedicating your Saturday to do this project for me. I'm so lucky to have these guys my band, and it's amazing how they have captured the sound that I have been looking for for so long. Jeff was amazing like always. He is the ultimate producer nazi :)! Without him, this project would have still been just a conversation subject. He is one of the very few people I have met that really understands me as an artist. And Jon... WOW! We got some killer tones for his guitar parts. He even played a 12 string electric on one of the tunes. We still have the vocals and keyboards to track and guitar on one song, but it should be finished in about 3 or 4 weeks. I can't wait! Better go, but I'll keep ya posted.

Studio Time - April 20, 2006

We are confirmed to go in the studio next month (May 20th). I can't wait. We got the whole day to do as much as we can possibly do. It is possible that we may have some CD sampler's to give on at the next French Quarter show on June the 2nd. Don't forget to sign the guestbook!! Thanks for stopping by!!

Thanks!! - March 25, 2006

Thanks to everybody that came out to the show Friday night. We had an awesome first show. Thanks for your support in my new "Nashville" performing experience.

Only 4 Days Till the Show!! - March 21, 2006

Hey guys! Happy Second Day of Spring!! I'm so excited about our show coming up this Friday! I'm thankful to have the opportunity to play in a band with such talented musicians. It sounds like we may have a lot of people coming. I can't wait!!!! Hope to see ya there.

Peace,
Anna
